The revision of the MRC de Mékinac land use plan aims to guide coherent and sustainable territorial development by integrating local realities, outdoor tourism, resort development, and the preservation of natural environments.
The update of the land use plan for the Mékinac RCM is part of a strategic approach aimed at ensuring the document’s compliance with the new government guidelines for land use planning (OGAT). This revision makes it possible to define an updated and coherent vision that will guide all municipalities in developing their local planning. The project places particular importance on recreational tourism and vacationing, two essential components of the region’s identity that contribute to economic vitality and the territory’s attractiveness. The approach also seeks to strengthen the protection of natural environments, landscapes, and environmental resources in order to ensure the harmonious enhancement of the territory while preserving its long-term assets. Integrating the new OGAT thus helps to structure sustainable planning adapted to contemporary realities.
Composed of several cities and municipalities with varied characteristics, the Mékinac RCM must contend with distinct urban, rural, and vacationing contexts. The revision of the plan will ensure a nuanced understanding of the issues and propose a framework tailored to the different local specificities, while maintaining an overall coherent vision at the scale of the territory. The approach also relies on public participation, in order to gather the ideas, concerns, and aspirations of residents and local stakeholders. These contributions will enrich the collective reflection and guide land use planning decisions, with a view to sustainable development and the territory’s attractiveness.
